Small begiNnings
In 2022 my oldest daughter was born at 2lbs 7ounces, so we had a long NICU stay that summer. I was so thankful to be with my daughter, but being in the city hours away from home I was really missing our farm life and my little garden.
With some inspiration from my husband I began dreaming about how someday I might turn my enjoyment of flowers and gardening into a business I could do with my daughter next to me someday. After some time of dreaming and a long honey-do list my husband put together my first greenhouse in 2023 for me and I started seeding out a lots of flowers in this tiny space.
A family history
Abbi’s Grandpa, Jim Otott, was a very talented grower. Before Abbi was born he owned a couple of greenhouses that he sold potted annuals, house plants, and vegetables out of. After much success they expanded adding a floral shop where Abbi’s Grandma, Jane Otott was a very successful florist. After some illness they decided to slow down and closed the greenhouses and Jim focused on landscaping and driving a semi for his other business, J&J Trucking.
During Abbi’s childhood her Grandma Jane grew and sold strawberries. A favorite early summer memory was going to visit her grandparents for a week each year and waking up in the morning with messy hair and rushing outside to help Grandma pick (eat) strawberries and Grandpa water and move netting so Grandma could pick.
As Jim moved to retirement he continued to do landscaping jobs and decided to add a cherry orchard, Sweet Cherry Village, to the mix! Throughout high school and beyond college Abbi enjoyed visiting in the summer to help pick and sell Jim’s sweet cherries.
It was during sweet cherry season that Abbi’s Grandpa introduced her to the idea of growing and selling cut flowers. Jim had begun buying and planting gladious bulbs to sell to their local florist.
Abbi and Kelly both grew up on row crop farms and enjoy the process of learning how to grow other crops and teaching their girls, Ayla and Clara, about different types of farming practices and crops.
